Lastly on the digital front is Camden’s innovative 3D Mapping Tool. In 2021, Gaya Gounder and her team from Camden Council attended the Smart Places Summit, presenting “Envisioning in 3D”. This is a partnership project with DCS Spatial Services, which was successful in receiving a grant funding as part of NSW Smart Places Acceleration program. The project is due for completion in 2023 resulting in improved outcomes including leveraging existing toolsets such as NSW Spatial Digital Twin, access to datasets, shared resourcing and expertise, access to other partners and stakeholders within the government. The objectives are to model areas of Camden such as the town centres as a pilot and develop the capability to visualise the entire Local Government Area. By allowing staff and residents to ‘see’ what planned developments will look like in reality once built (such as the graphics below show), it ensures that Council planners can easily visualise and hence finesse the planning of precincts as well as helping the community to make informed decisions about whether they approve /or to have their say. The project also aims in further iterations to include the IoT sensor data e.g. pedestrian count, transport data etc. to provide even more detailed context to future planning.
